Bejoy Nambiar has managed to raise a quite a few eyebrows with his directorial debut – Shiataan. The camera work and the action sequences of the movie are still the talk of the town. Now he is back with his latest offering Taish, which stars Harshvardhan Rane, Pulkit Samrat, Jim Sarbh, Kriti Kharbanda and Sanjeeda Sheikh. It is streaming on Zee 5 Premium and one has an option to watch it in one go as a movie or six episodes of 30 minutes each.
Taish has been one of the most anticipated movies thanks to its ensemble cast. The trailer was released last month. The first thought after watching this two and half minute trailer was that the movie promises a lot of action and drama but had a little understanding of the storyline.
One gets the same feeling in the first 30 minutes into the movie. There are just so many characters and the introductions and their relationship with each other takes some time getting used to. For that period it looks to be a movie about two weddings and a funeral. The movie picks pace after the first half and this is when you get invested in knowing what will happen next.
While 30 minutes capsules are a great way to watch the movie if you have little time on hand or there are distractions around you but Taish honestly is not the kind of series that is best suited for this format. There is little incentive for one to come back after every episode. Also, the kind of cast that the movie has it is easy to get lost and forget if you decide to take a break. However, watching it as a movie works better.
The best thing about the movie is how intricately flesh out each and every character in the movie is. The script has a sort of balance for every character so that everything shown comes to a full circle. What’s adds to it is the acting of all the three main leads – Harshvardhan Rane, Jim Sarbh and Pulkit Samrat.
Harshvardhan Rane has worked a lot on his Punjabi diction in the movie and the looks and it shows throughout the movie.
The movie starts with two cousins Khuli and Pali (played by Harshvardhan Rane) being at loggerheads over a woman - Sanjeeda Sheikh. To add to it the two brothers are also gangsters. This story gets entangled into the story of two friends Jim Sarbh and Pulkit Samrat in which Jim is the same voice while Pulkit as Sunny is ready to hit the road at the slightest of provocation.
It is a slick movie and some of the action sequences are worth looking out for. My personal favourite was the chase sequence ahead of the climax. Overall the movie is an engaging watch and the performance by Harshvardhan and Jim Sarbh ( barring his ascent) are the highlights of the movie.
