In recent developments, the state education department has decided to cut the syllabus by 25 per cent for the upcoming board examinations due to the non-completion of the syllabus amidst the pandemic.

However, those who are repeating a year for the 10th and 12th written examinations or reappearing for grade improvement will have to appear for the examinations without any syllabus cuts.

According to reports, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will conduct the Class X and XII examinations in the months of April and May. Students who want to retake the examinations for grade improvement will also be able to take the exam at this time. However, the Board of Education has clarified that these students will not be given the benefit of 25 per cent curriculum reduction.

Due to the coronavirus induced lockdown, offline education in the state was stopped from March 2020. Although online learning is still ongoing, students still face many difficulties, especially when it comes to the practical aspect of the syllabus.

The Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had earlier announced the dates for the board exams in the state. Usually conducted in February and March, this year, due to the pandemic, the board exams have been rescheduled by the state education board. Gaikwad, speaking the dates for the examinations informed that SSC will be held from 29 April to 31 May, and HSC will be held from 23 April to 29 May.
