According to the latest reports, in Maharashtra students' performance in grade 12 as well as the Common Entrance Test (CET) will be equally considered when asserting the merit list for undergraduate professional and technical courses commencing in the next academic year, highlighted Uday Samant, the state higher and technical education minister.

Based on accounts, while interacting with media persons in Pune, on Tuesday, May 31, he held meetings with officials of various educational institutes. He was quoted in narratives elaborating on how the new system will be implemented from 2023-24, the next academic year and not this year.

It has been reported that Samant elucidated that presently, admissions to courses such as engineering, law and others are done in accordance with the CET marks. However, in the new system, only the CET marks will not be considered for professional courses' admissions.

He added that in the current system, pupils focus only on the CET. However, following a deliberation with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray a decision was taken that equal weightage should be accorded to the CET and Class 12 marks, narratives cited.

Samant believes that the resolution will assist students in having a good base with grade 12 academics. He further mentioned that like the JEE system, students will have a choice of a second CET to score better if they are not happy with their performance in the first CET. He uttered that the second test could be conducted soon after the first CET's result.
