The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been conducting vaccinations for students planning to study overseas since May 28. The civic body announced today that it has vaccinated 1,875 students so far in the city under this special scheme.

The BMC issued a statement saying that it created a capacity of 300 vaccine doses per hospital with Rajawadi Hospital, Cooper Hospital and Kasturba Hospital chosen as the designated vaccination centres. “Capacity to vaccinate students travelling abroad has been increased from 50 doses per centre to 300 doses per centre,” the civic body’s statement said.

On May 28, the BMC said that starting May 31, it would begin free walk-in vaccinations for students who have received their confirmation letter (I-20 or DS-160) for studies abroad.

Students were asked to bring their personal documents along with the official verified confirmation letters or related documentation issued by the university. This special vaccination drive for students will conclude on June 2.

Given the coronavirus situation in India, several countries have imposed restrictions on Indian students entering their countries. However, vaccinations are expected to offer a safe passage for interested students to pursue their higher studies in the institute of their choosing.
