Schools in Maharashtra are scheduled to be resumed in-person mode from October 4. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is yet to decide whether the schools in Mumbai will open.

The state government has approved the reopening of schools provided COVID-19 guidelines are followed, but the final decision to open schools in the city is awaited from the civic body.

The authorities have already started to receive queries from parents while the schools need clarity to ensure safety protocols are in place.

Reportedly, schools in Mumbai do not want the schools to re-open next month since the first semester exams will be held during the same time.

The education department circular provides guidelines, and even the Maharashtra Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad, had said that the schools have to strictly follow the SOP suggested by Pediatric Task Force.

As per reports, schools are also informed to set up health clinics and order equipment such as oximeters and infrared thermometers from their funds.

Based on earlier talks with the BMC, school authorities thought they would resume school post-Diwali. Due to the circular by the government stating that schools will reopen from October 4, schools are now seeking clarity. They are waiting for BMC's confirmation about the situation.
