The Common Entrance Test (CET) that was to be held for first-year junior college admissions will not be conducted this year. Based on reports, the Bombay High Court has quashed the state government’s demand to hold CET for 11th std admissions this year. Thus, the admissions will now be conducted without any entrance test and if reports are to be believed, admissions will be completed in six weeks based on the evaluation of marks.
The matter of CET for FYJC admissions was with the Bombay High Court for quite some time, with several students voicing their discontent regarding the conduction of these exams. Since the SSC exams were cancelled this year, the CET was brought in to ensure uniformity in the admission process.
Students from other boards were against the CET since its syllabus was not in tandem with what they had studied. Therefore, the Bombay High Court asked the state if students from other boards could have a separate syllabus for the exam. It also went on to recommend the formation of a committee of members of different boards who could come together to prepare the question paper. The state government then sought opinions from various educational boards on the curriculum for the CET. However, the other boards provided reasons to highlight their incapacity in developing the exam’s curriculum.
Thus, with recent developments, CET will not be conducted for FYJC admissions.
