FYJC may resume classes next week

As per reports, the first-year junior colleges might resume classes within the next week with admissions to 75 per cent of the seats in the reputed colleges getting completed.

The first-year junior college (FYJC) is all geared up to resume classes within the next week with admissions to 75 per cent of the seats in the reputed colleges getting completed.

As per reports, the classes are to be conducted online. Earlier, the online admissions regarding the same resumed on November 26. Moreover, students who had applied under the Maratha quota could change category. In addition, all students could change college preferences up to December 1, 2020. Meanwhile, the second merit list was made available on December 5, at 11 am. The admissions continued up to December 9, 2020.

In the second round of admissions, 76,231 students have been admitted to college. However, 79,579 students are still waiting for admission. After the first round of admissions, the process was halted as a result of interim suspension on the Maratha reservation.

The state government has revealed that admissions to all courses will now take place without the 12 per cent SEBC quota, it has also clarified through its recent government resolution (GR) that admissions confirmed under SEBC quota during the first round, which took place before September 9, will remain intact.

Earlier on Tuesday, November 24, the Bombay High Court had asked the Maharashtra government to clarify its stand by Thursday, November 26 regarding the FYJC admissions.

The division bench consisting of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni asked as to why the admissions had not been concluded and were being postponed for over two and a half months. Moreover, the judges pointed that the petition regarding the same was first heard on October 27 and later on November 9, however, no positive response had come up from the state government in spite of it up until now.
