In a substantial development, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has kickstarted digital education for all the school going students of Mumbai in view of the pandemic.

According to sources, a proposal regarding the same is to be sent for approval in the next meeting of the civic body. For a while now, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has been pushing for modern education in municipal schools. In the age of virtual media, the educational and intellectual development of a child will be better if he or she is exposed to the digital platform from an early age as it will help them to acquire modern education just like the students of private schools.

In view of the situation, a proposal has been prepared in order to provide for digital classes in the next six months from the date of receipt of work orders in 1,300 classes of BMC, including interactive panel (LED), UPS and e-learning and multimedia content. Moreover, INR 36.79 crores will be provided to the contractor Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd. for construction, testing and commissioning.

A special course will be given to the students in the class in which education will be imparted through puzzles, animation, games etc. In addition, the teachers of the civic-run schools will be provided with adequate training for six months before conducting the classes.

Furthermore, Municipal Education Officer Mahesh Palkar, while talking to our representatives said that digital education will be imparted to the students in the school classrooms by the teachers and an interactive panel (LED) will be used for this. Also, the educational lessons imparted to the students through this panel will be well remembered and recharged. Similarly, students will also be able to take examinations using this panel.
