According to sources, the Maharashtra education department is likely to start the new academic year from June 15 via online classes.
Due to the second wave of the coronavirus, and the spike in COVID-19 cases, this year, just like last year, online classes will be imposed on students in order to curb the instances of the infection.
Last year, the Maharashtra education department conducted an experiment to reach out to students through the Centre's Diksha app and WhatsApp. Exercises were being sent on WhatsApp through the initiative “School closed, studies resumed”. It was then revealed from various surveys that the number of students with a television available was the highest. Therefore, this year, the education department is trying to impart lessons to students through television for all classes. Moreover, a proposal has also been sent to Doordarshan for the same
On the other hand, addressing the uncertainty around Class 12 examinations in Maharashtra, State School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said that a decision on this will be taken in a week. Gaikwad was speaking to the media after the conclusion of a virtual meeting put together by the Central Government regarding Class 12 board examinations. However, it must be noted that the Maharashtra government recently cancelled Class 10 state board examinations, though a decisive call on Class 12 examinations is yet to be taken.
