At a recently held event at Mumbai University's Kalina Campus, State Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant stated that events across all educational institutes in Maharashtra should start with a national anthem.

He further said that that this, in turn, will evoke a feeling of patriotism among the youth and asserted that the system of singing national anthem is followed in theatres, so why not institutes?

Uday Samant, who represents Ratnagiri's Sangmeshwar constituency was invited as a chief guest at the event said that Marathi is our mother tongue and we should have a sense of pride towards it. In order to preserve it, Universities should put their name in Marathi script too.  A directive in this decision will be sent to education institutes soon and will be applicable to all colleges, universities, engineering and medical institutes in the state.
