The state education department is said to declare the first merit list for admissions to first-year junior college at 3 pm on Sunday, August 30.

More than 19,000 students had earlier applied this year with more than 90 per cent. According to a report in Hindustan Times, this can make the cut-offs to be rather high. Moreover, the state and the Mumbai division clocked the highest pass percentage since 2004.

In view of the pandemic, the colleges are to follow the zero contact procedure for conducting the admissions. The students are to receive messages on their registered cell phone numbers with the details of the college allotted to them. The students can further complete their admission process through the portal.

Meanwhile, the members of the University of Mumbai senate had earlier approved 36 colleges for the academic year 2021-2022. As per the data shared by MU, the 36 fresh colleges are to include 16 traditional colleges, three hotel management, six law colleges, one night and one social work college each, two hospitality colleges and one college each for integrated education, physical education and sports.

Back in the first week of August, MU had released a circular stating that except for first-year undergraduate and postgraduate graduate courses, colleges should start e-learning for the new academic year amidst the coronavirus crisis.
