The Maharashtra government has allowed the online classes for pre-primary, first and second standard students since the schools are shut due to the coronavirus outbreak. The students will have to attend a 30-minute session for five days a week via e-learning.

Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Friday shared fresh guidelines issued by the state government for schools in the state for online education. The government had earlier banned e-learning up to the second standard.

“Guidelines were issued for schools in the state for online education. This decision is being taken keeping in view the interest and health of the students (sic),” Gaikwad tweeted.

The guidelines issued recently for online education are inclusive of students upto 2nd standard. Earlier in June, the state government decided to start the online classes excluding students from pre-primary, first and second class.

The state government has revised the order issuing fresh guidelines in line with the Union Human Resource Development Ministry as the schools remain closed due to the COVID-19 crisis.

According to the government resolution, the online session for pre-primary would consist of interactions with students and their parents. The teacher would guide the parents to understand their child’s learnings and the importance of online education as a medium to do so.

The guidelines state that 15 minutes out of the 30 minutes in the online session will be dedicated to interactions with parents while the rest of time will be spent on learning for the students.

Furthermore, students from third to the eighth standard will have to take two online classes of 45 minutes each while the number of sessions will be four for students from ninth to twelfth standard.
