A total of 1.8 lakh seats are up for grabs in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) as per the online admissions portal. Many colleges have surrendered some of their seats under a few quotas for this particular round. This has increased the number of seats in the open category up from 50,286 in the third round to 81,473 for this special round.

Meanwhile, admissions under the three quotas such as minority, in-house, and management will go on with more than 37,000 seats said to be available. Those applicable under the quotas can apply directly from junior colleges.

Even though all students are eligible to participate under this round, they will be required to offer their consent from the online student login page. This is applicable to students that had cancelled their admission or couldn’t take admission despite being given the first preference or students who were rejected by junior colleges.

When a seat is allotted in the special merit list on December 24, the students will have to confirm their place at the college by 5 PM on December 26. Officials from the education department said that information on future admission rounds will be given out when required and with the approval of the government.

Given that a large majority of the colleges have reportedly filled 75% of the available seats, they are permitted to start classes in the city as long as in-person learning is permitted.
