On Wednesday, June 2, the Maharashtra government led by Uddhav Thackeray reportedly decided to cancel the Maharashtra board examinations for Class 12 students.

Moreover, the in-principle decision by the Maharashtra cabinet will be placed before the state disaster management authority, also headed by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, for the formal orders. According to reports, the state school education department on Wednesday moved a proposal to the state disaster management authority headed by the Chief Minister to take the final decision.

On the other hand, earlier on Sunday, May 30, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, while addressing the state informed that a uniform education policy in the country is the need of the hours further stressing the need for revolutionary decisions in the field of education in view of the pandemic.

Speaking about the same, he stated, “The education policy should be uniform for the country, especially for examinations that impact the future of students like Class 12. We have decided to cancel the Class 10 exams and will soon take a decision on the Class 12 exams. However, I would appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take a call on having a uniform policy in the education sector,"

Furthermore, Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had earlier held a press conference wherein she announced that the state government will not hold the Class 10 or the SSC examinations in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
