Maharashtra schools reopen in rural areas

According to reports, at least 5,947 schools across Maharashtra has resumed offline classes for students studying in standards 8 to 12 on Thursday, July 15.

Moreover, the officials from the state education department have stated that classes are being resumed offline in areas that are currently not detecting any positive coronavirus cases. In addition, as per the data shared by the education department, Kolhapur saw the highest number of schools reopening at 940, followed by Aurangabad (631), Yavatmal (502) and Jalna (447), among others.

This comes days after the Maharashtra government issued a resolution stating that schools may call students on campus in areas that have not reported even a single case of COVID-19 over the last month. The Uddhav Thackeray led government had earlier decided to halt offline classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the spike in coronavirus cases.

Earlier, Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had informed that the schools have been permitted to start offline classes for students of Classes 8 to 12 from July 15. Speaking about the same she stated, “It has become a need of the hour to have a co-educational approach to reach out to the children of the last strata of the state,”

Furthermore, Gaikwad informed that all teachers and staff members need to be vaccinated before the school reopening.
