State Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had recently reviewed the state education system along with Tourism and Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray. She submitted a presentation to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray stating that the school syllabus requires a revamp as it needs to focus more on jobs, and should be a job-centric syllabus.

An Education Department Official stated that by merely providing infrastructure, teaching-learning material, teaching and non-teaching staff is not adequate for quality education. Taking into note the changing socio-economic factors, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had insisted that there is a need for such syllabus.

The textbooks currently focus on Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. However, the new syllabus may include their policies, such as the taxation system, water conservation, afforestation and relief measures during natural calamities. This in turn would help students in understanding the practical application of whatever they study in their respective fields.
