Amidst the pandemic, several universities had to brace the online multiple choice question (MCQs) pattern to assess the students due to the contagious nature of COVID-19.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, several autonomous colleges across Mumbai have been making an attempt to improvise testing methods. According to reports, Sophia College for Women has already brought down the weightage given to the MCQ-based semester-end examination. Moreover, reports state that St Xavier’s College is planning to do the same.

On the other hand, several others are including subjective questions and a more flexible approach to assessing postgraduate students. Most autonomous colleges currently follow the 60-40 pattern of assessment, where 40 marks are for the internal and 60 for the semester-end exams.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, May 16, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, announced that he will conduct a meeting with state education secretaries on Monday to discuss pivotal issues with regards to the pandemic and state of education in the country. In addition, this has been organized to discuss the COVID-19 situation, online education, and the National Education Policy.

Furthermore, the final decision on CBSE Class 12 board examinations is also likely to be taken in this meeting. In early April, the Education Ministry announced the cancellation of the CBSE Class 10 board examinations and the postponement of Class 12 board exams due to the spike in COVID-19 cases across India. However, the Ministry of Education is yet to announce the dates for the Class 12 examinations.
