Students from the University of Mumbai can breathe a sigh of relief. According to reports, spread across seven districts, the university has decided to put up an exam cell in all of its five sub-centres. Equipped with a budget allocation of INR 90 lakhs, the exam cells will be put up in sub-centres in Thane, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri including Palghar and Raigad that are the proposed sub-centres, cited accounts.

The said decision was reportedly undertaken at the Mumbai University Senate meeting on Wednesday, March 16. Herein a budget of INR 809 crore for 2022-23 was approved. Presently, there is only one exam section of the university which is placed in Mumbai’s Kalina campus.

Therefore, students from various locations have to visit this place to solve their problems that include the likes of issues in mark sheets, re-evaluation or photocopy of answer sheets or other related requirements. In light of this, students have often voiced their discontent.

Apart from this, other initiatives stated under the budget include the allocation of INR 2 crore for a Digital Library and INR 9 crore for the Balasaheb Thackeray Art and Cultural Centre. These are similar to that of last year.

On the other hand, the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Research Centre has received an additional budgetary allocation of INR 3 crore this year in contrast to the INR 2 crore it received last year.

Similarly, the university library which has been in the limelight for some time now has attained a fresh budgetary allocation of INR 1.7 crore for furniture as well as equipment. Moreover, other development projects entail the Hindi and Urdu Bhasha Bhavan.

The Mumbai University budget has also allocated provisions for an Indoor Sports Complex, one hostel each for girls and boys from the reserved category and one for international students. A staff quarter is also set to be constructed for teaching and non-teaching staff.
