The NCERT executive committee member Madhuri Shahane presented the idea of using QR code in the textbooks to reduce the burden on students. In response, HRD minister Javadekar has ordered the NCERT officials to establish a working group to work upon this idea.
In order to reduce the burden of school bags for school students, the government is planning to introduce Quick Response Code (QR Code) in the textbooks from the academic year 2019-20. Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar mentioned this at a National Academy of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) meeting.
NCERT executive committee member Madhuri Shahane said that the QR code will be provided in all the textbooks from Standard I to XII. Accordingly, e-content will be prepared and attached to the QR code to make textbooks available with audiovisual options and provide self-help and practice questions.
Those web links can be accessed with the help of a smartphone camera. This will help the students to study from laptops or digital boards. The process of preparing useful e-content regarding maps, videos, animations, powerpoint presentations, according to the textbooks has been started.
