Confirmation of RTE admissions can now be given until July 9

As per reports, several parents were facing technical difficulties while submitting the documents and keeping the concerns in mind, the concerned department has extended the date from June 30 to July 9, 2021.

The Director of Primary Education, on Wednesday, May 30, 2021, released a circular informing that the deadline for a candidate to submit the  documents for admission under the Right to Education (RTE) has been extended to July 9, 2021. Earlier the Pune-based office had decided June 30, 2021, to be the deadline, however, the same has been extended now. 

This will be applicable for those who have been selected for the admissions and in order to confirm the same, documents, both original and photocopies will have to be sent to the officials. Alternatively, the parents can use email, WhatsApp or call the officials and confirm the admissions. The Free Press Journal posted a note from the circular which read, "Parents of students who have been selected in the lottery round for RTE admission can submit documents and confirm admissions in allotted schools by July 9. We have extended the earlier deadline of June 30, as some parents have not received the SMS, or are facing technical issues amidst the lockdown."

Reports state that the parents were facing technical difficulties with the OTP service, while submitting the documents, and keeping this in mind, the officials decided to extend the deadline, thereby offering additional time. Furthermore, some parents were not able to go to the nearby schools in the village due tot he COVID-19 pandemic. To ease the process, parents have been allowed to confirm the admissions online or by contacting them. 

Students from the financially weak backgrounds are being given free and compulsory education in private unaided schools, until Class 8, whereby 25 per cent seats are reserved as per law. Data released by the department mentioned that a total of 96,684 seats are available in 9,432 schools across Maharashtra and the lottery drawn by the department in March 2021 resulted in a total of 82,129 admissions. The admissions process were started recently after the state government relaxed the coronavirus lockdown restrictions. These were held between June 11 and 30, 2021. Reports reveal that 36,445 students have been given temporary admission in this period and the admission of 23,205 students has been confirmed.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,985 students have been given admissions in Mumbai out of the 6,463 seats available across the schools which have been registered for RTE admissions. Of the selected students, 1,523 students have confirmed admissions so far. 

Lottery-related messages were sent if the students were selected for the admissions, basis which, parents had to submit the documents on or before June 30, 2021. However, the same has been extended due to several concerns which were expressed.
