The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials have asked residents residing near Mumbai and Konkan coast to stay alert owing to Cyclone Ockhi. At the same time, the education department has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Sindhudurg, and Raigad. The decision is a precautionary measure.

IMD officials have confirmed that winds will blow at 60 to 70 km per hour on Tuesday and Wednesday causing rainfall. 

The cyclone was centered at least 870 km off South West of Mumbai and it is very likely that the cyclone will move northwestwards of Maharashtra and then move towards South Gujarat during the ensuing 72 hours between December 4 night and December 6 morning.
