Amid the rectification and re-assessment issue in Mumbai last academic year, the Maharashtra State Committee of Student Federation of India (SFI) on Thursday demanded the immediate appointment of Mumbai University’s Vice-Chancellor (VC) and Registrar as a precautionary measure.

Earlier on March 28, 2017, a written statement was submitted to the Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao regarding the urgent appointment of a full-time VC and Registrar in Mumbai University. SFI has asserted to the Governor and Education Minister that if the demands are not met until April 10, 2018, SFI will fast at Mumbai University's Kalina Campus.

The students in any college consult VC over several issues pertaining to the university. However, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Mumbai is not always available and it makes it hard for the students to solve their problems and the issue remains unresolved. Due to these problems, SFI has demanded the full-time appointment of the VC.

The government should consider our demands, otherwise, there will be an indefinite protest at Mumbai University’s Kalina Campus, SFI District Secretary Rameshwar Shere.
