The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) will pass down detailed instructions to calculate the combined marks of Class 9 and Class 10 students.

The board will do this by posting videos on YouTube while also providing specialized forms to fill marks and other instructions to calculate the combined marks.

Given that schools have already started evaluating SSC students, the MSBSHSE is looking to make that process somewhat easier. Class 10 examinations were recently cancelled due to the onset of the second COVID-19 wave in India.

Chairperson of the Board, Dinkar Patil said that the State Board has sought the help of experts to pass down information efficiently to school principals. This would assist with almost every aspect of the grading process, with students of Class 10 being evaluated based on their performances in Class 9 as well internal assessments/tests conducted during the academic year.

“We will release the details on Thursday for schools to start compiling the marks and enter them into the system. Since it will be a manual job, the school management will require at least a few days to complete the data management,” Patil said.

This is uncharted territory for pretty much everyone involved, including schools. Needless to say, not everybody is on board with the State’s decision to evaluate students based on their past performances. But in a year dominated by the pandemic, one can argue that this was the only solution.
