We have filed a criminal defamation suit against actress Kangana Ranaut for allegedly making false statements in an interview given to a news channel after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Famous lyricist Javed Akhtar claimed in the High Court on Tuesday that Kangana has filed a petition against it only to delay the criminal proceedings initiated on the basis of this claim. Akhtar filed an affidavit opposing Kangana's petition in the High Court. In it, he made the above claim about Kangana.

Kangana had approached the High Court last week seeking a stay on the criminal proceedings initiated on the basis of the suit filed by Akhtar. A preliminary hearing on the petition was held on Tuesday before a bench of Justice Revathi Mohite Dere and Justice Manjusha Deshpande. At that time, considering the nature of the petition, the court raised the question as to whether the petition should come before a single bench or a bench for hearing. Also, the Registrar General's office was ordered to verify it.

Earlier, Akhtar opposed Kangana's plea by filing an affidavit through lawyer Jai Bhardwaj. Akhtar claimed that her plea was baseless and was mainly made to delay the criminal proceedings initiated by the Andheri Magistrate. Kangana's petition is based on assumptions. Also, the issues raised in the petition are vague and unsupportable and on that basis the court will not be able to pass any concrete order, Akhtar has said while demanding to deny relief to Kangana.

Meanwhile, the criminal defamation complaint filed by Akhtar against you and you against him arise out of a single incident. Therefore, both the cases should be heard together to avoid conflicting decisions, Kangana said while seeking stay of the criminal proceedings.
