Legal notice to makers of 'Dancing on the grave' documentary; Swami Shradhanand demands a ban

Recently, a documentary called 'Dancing on the Grave' was released on Amazon Prime. This series is based on the gruesome murder of Shakire Khalili, who was a mother of four daughters, and the granddaughter of a former Diwan of the Mysore royal family in the 90s. This murder case, which happened 31 years ago in 1991, was very popular.


Murali Manohar alias Swami Shraddhanand has been sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with this murder and is currently serving his sentence in Central Jail of Madhya Pradesh. According to a media report, Swami Shraddhanand's lawyer has sent a legal notice to India Today and Prime Video. The notice has demanded a ban on the telecast of this web series.


The notice reads, “This web series (Dancing on the Grave) is related to my client, whose case is pending before the Hon'ble Supreme Court. As per Writ Petition No.66 of 2014 your web series is in violation of law and is adversely affecting the legal rights of my client in the matter pending before the Judge. Therefore, I would like to appeal to you through this legal notice to immediately stop the transmission of the above-mentioned webseries upon receipt of this notice.”

The notice further states that if this is not done immediately, legal action will be taken by filing a criminal case against the concerned people. Apart from this, Murali Manohar's lawyer has demanded INR 55,000 for this legal action. The web series premiered on April 21 on Prime Video. Based on a true story, this crime series is written and directed by Patrick Graham. Kanishk Singh Dev co-wrote this documentary.
