The National Commission For Protection Of Child Rights (NCPCR) has decided to revise the guidelines for children participating in various reality shows. This decision was taken based on the recent controversy regarding singer Papon and a minor girl who participated in the singing reality show, where the singer was seen as the mentor.
The child rights organization had issued a notice to Papon and the show's TV channel last month, after which the singer had quit the reality show where he was a mentor.
While talking to media an NCPCR official said, “The new guidelines are being worked on in the light of changing circumstances. Certain legal provisions like Juvenile Justice Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act were being considered for revising, but it will take time.”
NCPCR committee states that they have been receiving more written complaints related to reality TV shows where children are being made to shoot for more than 12 hours. Therefore, NCPCR people are trying to reach out to the TV channel associations to discuss the implementation of new guidelines.
