The Supreme Court revised its 2016 order on Tuesday stating that playing the National Anthem in cinema halls is not mandatory.

On November 30, 2016, the SC had directed to play the National Anthem in all cinema halls across the country before the screening of films and all should stand in respect till the anthem ended.

The center has asked the SC to hold its order of National Anthem playing the cinema halls informing the apex court that it had informed an inter-ministerial committee to frame new guidelines regarding the same. It has asked for a deadline of six months for the same.
