The actor breathed his last at Mumbai's Kokilaben hospital and was being treated for prolonged illness.

Veteran Bollywood actor Shashi Kapoor passes away in Mumbai, at the age of 79. The popular actor started his career in acting, as a child in 1940s in Sangram (1950) and Dana Paani (1953). He later continues to work as an assistant director may films, including Sunil Dutt's debut film. 

Shashi Kapoor was an eminent actor respected for many roles he played, for which he also received three national awards (1979, 1986, 1994), Dadasaheb Phalke Award (2015), and Padma Bhushan (2011). 

He fell in love with Jennifer Kandal at an early age. The couple married shortly after family consent and became parents to Kunal, Karan and Sanjana Kapoor. In 1978, Shashi and Jennifer gave Mumbai its iconic landmark Prithvi Theate on 5 November 1978. 

He has shared screen with many veteran legends such as Rakhee, Sharmila Tagore, Zeenat Aman, Hema Malini and many others. The actor was last seen in the 1998 biopic based on Muhammad Ali Jinnah's life in a special role. 

The legend breathed his last at Mumbai's Kokilaben hospital, where he was being treated for prolonged illness.
