All the 24 administrative wards of Mumbai are set to compete with each other for the Swachh Survekshan Survey 2022. They will be ranked based on the cleanliness in their area.

The aim is to create healthy competition among citizens in terms of cleanliness. Other than private premises such as hospitals, hotels and schools that participate every year, public premises such as roads, nullahs, bus stops, traffic islands, and gardens will also be included in the survey this year.

An external agency will be hired by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to conduct the survey and they will send its findings to the administration. Recently, BMC floated the tenders for the same.

Results of this competition need to be ready by mid-January; therefore, it is likely that they will finalise the contracts within a week, said a civic official who is a part of the tendering process. The agency that will be hired will also organize competitions for movies, drawings, jingles, and street plays, apart from the surveying areas.

A few days ago, results for the  Swachh Survekshan 2021 was released in which Mumbai was ranked 37th while in 2020 it stood at 35th position. Meanwhile, Navi Mumbai was ranked fourth as India's fourth cleanest city.
