On Monday, February 21, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) handed over 68.4 hectares of mangroves to the Forest Department.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee CIDCO Vice-Chairman & Managing Director took to Twitter on Monday saying, “We have now handed over around 2000 Hectares of Mangroves to the Forest department. Under the Guidance of Government of Maharashtra, we remain committed to the cause of sustainable development.”

From the total 68.4 hectares, 24.20 hectares are located at Ulwe, 3.15 hectares at Wahal, 39.94 hectares at Waghiwali, and 0.75 hectares at Sonkhar, highlighted Mukherjee.

Mukherjee brought to light that CIDCO is the first public authority to come ahead to proclaim 1,458 hectares of land as reserve forest in the Thane district. He added that they have developed 320 hectares of the mangrove park in the Panvel tehsil.

They have done so with the assistance of the Mangrove Cell of the Forest Department. He added that another 281 hectares of the mangrove lands in Panvel have been given to the Forest Department in 2021.

In other developments, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, (NMMC) announced a new initiative called ‘Plog Run’ wherein citizens were encouraged to spread the message regarding cleanliness. Organized as a part of the Swachh Survekshan campaign for 2022, participating citizens were expected to jog in the run and pick up plastic waste on the way.
