Given that Mumbai noticed heavy rainfall on the wee hours of Tuesday as well as the night before, some parts of the city witnessed waterlogging with water reaching up to 2 feet in Lower Parel as per onsite reports. Some traffic was also affected on the city’s eastern highway due to the thunderstorms across the city.
The meteorological department has predicted more rains in areas of Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad over the next 24 to 48 hours.
This marks the official arrival of monsoons in Mumbai, although some parts of Maharashtra were recently hit by Cyclone Nisarga, leading to damage of property as well as a serious reflection on the state’s cyclone preparedness measures.

In anticipation of the coming monsoon, the BMC conducted a disinfection drive across key areas of Mumbai. This involved manually disposing items like tyres that are considered conducive for mosquitoes that carry diseases like malaria. The authorities even used drones to identify and disinfect parts of the city that were hard to reach.
As authorities have stressed on multiple occasions, the civic health infrastructure may be hit due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. Consequently, this may have an impact on treating other illnesses like dengue or malaria during the monsoons.
