On Thursday, July 21, a meeting was held in Mumbai regarding law and order as well as other matters on the occasion of festivals such as Ganeshotsav, Moharram, and Dahi Handi. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and senior police officers and secretaries of concerned departments were present. After this meeting, Shinde made some important announcements.

According to reports, these announcements include the following:

  • This year Ganeshotsav and Dahi Handi should be celebrated with enthusiasm. While doing this, the mandals should create a vision of social awareness and social unity.
  • Instructions to police and district administrations to maintain good law and order in Maharashtra during the festivals of Ganeshotsav, Dahi Handi, and Moharram.
  • Before the start of Ganeshotsav, the potholes on the roads across the state should be filled.
  • There is no registration fee for Ganeshotsav pandals. Instructions not to take guarantee letter also.
  • Ganesotsav pandals should get all kinds of permissions through a single window scheme.
  • Ganeshotsav is celebrated with a social spirit. Rules must be followed. However, the rules should not be made unreasonable.
  • There will be a regulation for the celebration across Maharashtra. District administrations should appoint nodal officers for the celebration. A positive mindset should be maintained to overcome the difficulties faced by Ganesh pandals.
  • Adequate power supply arrangements should be made by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) at all immersion sites and immersion routes in Mumbai.
  • Restrictions on the height of idols have been lifted.
  • Places should be fixed for idols in Mumbai for idol makers. Some oppressive terms and conditions for idolaters should be relaxed.
  • A technical committee will be appointed regarding the idols of POP, in which there will be expert representatives of MPCB, NIRI, IIT, NCL etc. This committee will take an environmentally friendly route.
  • Award schemes will be started for Ganeshotsav workers.
  • Charity Commissioner should have an online system for board registration.
  • If noise pollution and some other petty crimes have been reported against the Ganpati pandal workers, the police should take action to properly investigate and remove them.
  • Follow the guidelines given by the court regarding minor Govinda (below 14 years) in the Dahi Handi festival.
