Mumbai - Scrapping of service tax levied by hotels and restaurants is on demand as per the survey conducted across the nation. Mumbai's Consumer Forum conducted an online survey 'To pay or Not to pay'. 93% of consumers across the nation have urged Central Government to cancel the service charge on hotel bill informed Campaign Head Varsha Raut.

The government has permitted hotel owners to levy the service tax, but at the same time, it has also given the consumers the right to deny the payment for service charge. 2290 consumers were surveyed, out of which 2129 declined payment of service tax. The survey was conducted in 48 cities across the nation.
