ISL 2019-20: Mumbai City FC sign Keenan Almeida on loan from Hyderabad FC

Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Mumbai City FC, on Saturday, Februrary 1, 2020, signed Keenan Almeida, a defender from Hyderabad FC. The team believes that Almeida's entry in the squad would add value to the team due to his skills as a strong defender. The 28-year-old joins the Islanders' squad until the end of the season, bolstering Jorge Costa's defensive unit, a media release issued said.

On Friday, Mumbai City established themselves in the top four, after the Islanders defeated NorthEast United FC 1-0 and they are in the reckoning to make the playoffs.

Almeida has primarily displayed ability to play as a right-back and so, he can operate efficiently across the defence and will be a notable addition to the Islanders' defence following Sarthak Golui's season-ending injury. The defender made his ISL debut with FC Goa, joining them in 2015.

After which, Almeida, over the coming seasons enjoyed loan stints with with former side Salgaocar and Churchill Brothers. Later on, he was signed by Chennaiyin FC where he found himself a part of a successful season in the 2017-18 ISL campaign.

Eventually, he switched allegiance from Chennaiyin FC to FC Pune City but owing to an injury early, the 28-year-old defender was ruled out of action for the entirety of the season. Later, as FC Pune City's disbanded him, he moved to Hyderabad FC.

Meanwhile, the win on Friday sees Mumbai climb to fourth on the table, two points clear of fifth-placed Odisha FC, while NorthEast, winless in nine games, are second from bottom. The Islanders will now look to retain their spot or promote themselves up the order to ensure successive entry to the ISL playoffs.
