Mumbai to play host city for FIFA U-17 World Cup

For the first time ever, India is hosting a FIFA tournament and it’s the U-17 men’s championship. AIFF (All India Football Federation) has said that if the event is successful, future footballing events are very much possible. Team India being the host nation, has automatically qualified for the group stages, whereas teams like England, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Colombia, Japan are few of the other participating nations. Spain and FC Barcelona legend,Carles Puyol, visited India on Tuesday,May 16 to kick-start the sale of tickets with the local committee.

It’s a very special sporting event for the country as this event might throw more light on India as a footballing nation. Mumbaikars have a reason to celebrate as Mumbai is one of the host cities along with New Delhi, Kolkata, Goa, Guwahti and Kochi. Matches will take place at DY Patil stadium,Navi Mumbai and the games kick off on Friday,October 6, later this year. The draws will be held on July 7,2016.

Football is growing in this country and every Mumbaikar should support this grand sporting event happening in our city.
