Maharashtra total tally touches 230, 93 in Mumbai

Important update: As of March 31, 2020 (8:00 PM) 59 new coronavirus cases Mumbai in one day; taking the total in Maharashtra to 302. The civic authority, BMC, has stated that this sudden rise in coronavirus cases is because of the tests conducted by private labs, and the results of which were cumulative of four days.

In Maharashtra, the cases seem to be increasing in the multiples of five. The total number of cases has touched 230 as per the Maharashtra Health Department. Five more cases have been tested in the state. In this tally of five, four new cases were reported from Mumbai and one from Pune.

Earlier in the day with the addition of five new cases the tally had reached 225. Informing the state health official had shard that in these, there were two people from Pune and Buldhana and one from Mumbai.

The worrisome part is that as per Mumbai civic health official approximately 42 cases had tested positive for COVID-19 positive from Mumbai alone on Monday alone but their final lab reports are awaited and hence they have not been included in the final report.

In the tally of 230, we are now getting to see these number reflecting and by the end of the day the total number of Mumbai and the state.

Currently, the total number of active cases in Mumbai is 93.

In Delhi to 24 people have tested positive after attending a religious gathering at a mosque in the Nizamuddin area. It is being said that this gathering may have resulted in 7 death. People had gathered in this 100-year old mosque to celebrate Tablighi Jamaat, which is an Islamic missionary movement set up in 1926 and was attended with members across the world. There were about 280 foreigners too in attendance, It was a two-day affair from March 13-15.

Contract tracing is being conducted and Maharashtra health minister too has said that they are trying to find if people from the state had been a part of Tablighi Jamaat. Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday informed that the authorities have been instructed to trace those citizens (from Maharashtra), who may have visited the religious gathering in Delhi’s Nizamuddin West. 

There is already a 21-day lockdown announced in the country to contain the virus from spreading in the country. However, as soon as the lockdown was announced people forgot all about social distancing and started queueing up to stock up milk and other daily need items.
