COVID-19: Maharashtra's daily cases dip by 10,000; Mumbai sees over 9,000 cases for third time in a week

On Sunday, April 4, the state recorded 57,074 new COVID-19 cases, its highest daily rise whereas Mumbai recorded over 11,000 cases, the highest single-day spike since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in the country followed by Punjab.

According to reports, on Monday, April 5, Maharashtra recorded over 47,000 new coronavirus cases, nearly 10,000 cases less than Sunday, April 4, when the state witnessed its highest single-day spike since the pandemic began. Meanwhile, Mumbai reported over 9,000 cases for the third time in a week.

With 47,288 more infections in a day, Maharashtra's total tally of COVID-19 cases reached 30,57,885, as per the health bulletin. As many as 155 coronavirus-related deaths were reported in the state on Saturday, taking the death toll to 56,033, it said. Meanwhile, 26,252 patients were discharged during the day, pushing the tally of recoveries to 25,49,075.

At present, there are 4,51,375 active cases in the state. The recovery rate is 83.36 per cent and the case fatality rate is 1.83 per cent.

At 9,879 new cases, its capital Mumbai too reported a dip in the number of cases in the 24-hour span. The total tally of infections in the financial capital of India rose to 4,62,302, the city civic body said.

Dharavi, one of the worst-affected areas in Mumbai during last year's peak, reported 47 new cases on Monday.

Mumbai recorded 21 fatalities due to the infection in the last 24 hours, the latest update from the health department stated. Meanwhile, 3,357 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease.
