HCG Apex Cancer Centre of Borivali successfully treated 83-year-old Ibrahim Khan who was suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia with the help of technology and expertise in mere 23.7 minutes, which is considered as the shortest time recorded in India. The surgery was carried out on November 3, 2017.

What is Trigeminal Neuralgia?

It is also known as ‘The Suicide Disease’ which is a chronic pain condition. It affects the trigeminal or fifth cranial nerve which is one of the most widely distributed nerves in the head.

How severe is it?

The pain of Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) can go from bad to worse affecting a small area of the face or may spread.

My father was in pain for several years owing to Trigeminal Neuralgia. We went to a local doctor but that did not help. Our relatives told us about Dr Shankar who performed radiosurgery and now my father is relieved of pain."

Afrun Pathan, daughter.

The 83-year-old patient was treated in record time

Ibrahim Khan (83) hails from Nashik and was suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia for the past 15 years. He tried a lot of therapies which also included radiofrequency ablation which he opted 5 years back. Finally, the doctors decided to go for Stereotactic Radiosurgery.

We decided to opt for Radiosurgery where surgery is done by destroying precisely selected areas of the tissues using ionising radiation rather than excision with the blade. It is a knifeless, non-invasive procedure which does not need anesthesia, no blood transfusion and no risk for any infections. This helps the patient to get back to his routine life with no symptoms.”
