The land has been donated to Tata Hospital in Mumbai which costs around Rs 120cr. The land, just 400 meters from the present Tata Hospital, has been donated by a generous woman.

The Tata Memorial Hospital has a long list of patients seeking treatment, so many have to wait. As a solution to this, a generous woman from Mumbai has given her land worth about Rs 120cr to Tata Hospital to start a chemotherapy centre.

Deepika Mundle, 61, of Mumbai has donated her ancestral property of 30,000 square feet of land to Tata Hospital. Another 18 philanthropists have jointly donated for the construction of the centre. It is learned that this amount is around Rs 18cr.

Meherbai Tata died in 1932 of leukaemia, her husband, Dorabji Tata then wanted to bring a hospital-like facility to India to treat his wife. After Dorabji’s death, his successor, Nowroji Saklatwala, continued his efforts. Finally, as a result of J. R. D. Tata’s support, the dream of a seven-storey Tata Memorial Hospital in the heart of Parel, a labour camp in Mumbai, came true on 28 February 1941.

Tata Memorial Hospital is prominent in India for treating cancer patients. There is a large crowd here for the treatment of cancer. Tata Hospitals are treating about one-third of cancer patients in India and free treatment is provided to 60% of the patients who come here for free aid, cite reports.
