The number of patients infected with coronavirus in Mumbai is increasing on a daily basis. Maharashtra has touched the one lakh-mark with 1,07,958 COVID-19 cases while the number in Mumbai has reached 58,226.

The rise in COVID-19 cases in Mumbai was earlier witnessed in Worli and Dharavi after which the administration declared these two places as a hotspot for the coronavirus cases in the financial capital.

In the second week of June, the double rate of Worli and Dharavi had risen to 44 days and 38 days, respectively. The increasing cases in Dharavi, one of Asia’s biggest slums, was seen as a threat but the administration has been successful in slowing down the number of COVID-19 cases.

However, the ward wise data by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) shows new hotspots emerging in Mumbai. The rise in coronavirus cases can be seen in Mumbai’s suburban belt of Andheri and Jogeshwari.

The COVID-19 cases in K-West and K-East ward of the BMC have been increasing rapidly. According to the data accessed by Mumbai Live, as of June 10, the number of cases in KE ward is 3,486 while nearly 2,982 positive cases have been reported from the KW ward.

Andheri East and Jogeshwari areas are 70 per cent slum-dominated and densely populated. Almost 166 fresh cases were reported from Andheri East in one day earlier. As of now, the number of coronavirus patients in K-East ward - Andheri and Jogeshwari East - have risen to 3,782.
