The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sealed a housing society on Rani Sati Marg, in Malad (East), after the detection of 25 cases of the novel coronavirus.

On August 24, the officials held a camp in the society when the first four cases were detected. Moreover, the number of cases rose to 25 in the next 10 days.

Even though the BMC has managed to control the spread of coronavirus cases in Dharavi and Worli which were the hotspot areas initially, the western suburbs of Mumbai have emerged as the new hotspot areas. Moreover, the cases in Borivali, Kandivali, Dahisar, Malad and Andheri have been increasing at an alarming rate. As of September 2, the P North Ward which includes Malad has a growth rate of 0.98 per cent while the city’s average growth rate is 0.90 per cent.

Meanwhile, Mumbai, on Saturday, reported 1,737 cases taking the COVID-19 tally to 1,53,712 cases. Moreover, the recovery rate now stands at 80 per cent while the doubling rate has dropped once again to stand at 78 days.

On the other hand, Maharashtra, in the last 24 hours, clocked 20,489 cases of the coronavirus, which happens to be the highest ever single-day spike. This took the COVID-19 tally in the state to 8,83,862. Moreover, this happens to be the fourth consecutive day that the state has clocked a record number of coronavirus cases.
