The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will have to wait for a while in order to start the clinical trial of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, which has been named Covishield in the country, for the treatment of the coronavirus.

The KEM hospital and the BYL Nair hospitals are two of the 10 centres across the country that were permitted to host the phase one and phase two trials of Covishield, the potential drug to treat COVID-19 which has been developed in Oxford University.

The civic body had earlier sent two queries with regards to insurance amount to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) about the trial on Saturday. The queries were raised by the ethics committee of the two hospitals.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, both the hospitals have been waiting for the final nod from their respective ethics committee to begin clinical trials of the promising Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. Post the permission from the ethics committees and a response from ICMR, the trials can be initiated.
