BMC initiates Round-2 of Mission Indradhanush

BMC has started the second phase of vaccination of children below the age of five under Mission Indradhanush project led by Central Government. Mission Indradhanush is the project initiated by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, for children who missed out on vaccination either due to include lack of awareness or migration. In April, 9,620 children were identified who had not received the vaccination. Of the total number, 6,355 children have been administered. The number has reached to 8,265 which include 5,000 fresh cases. A total number of children the civic body has identified is around 14,000.


Mission Indradhanush aims at getting all the children vaccinated by 2020. The civic body has identified as 564 locations. In 2015, the civic body had vaccinated 10,907 children and last year around 12,139 of them had been vaccinated.

Dr Padmaja Keskar, BMC Executive Health Officer stated that aim of the authorities is to cover all the children who have been left out for vaccination.
