The number of Tuberculosis (TB) and Leprosy cases in Mumbai had witnessed a surge and therefore the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had dispatched a team of 2,700 people to screen over 10 lakh people who reside in slums and nearby areas.

As stated in the Free Press Journal, the BMC had screened people not just for TB and leprosy but also provided screening tests for women for oral, cervical and breast cancer. Over 1712 cases of cancer were detected through these tests.
