As there is a possibility of a third wave of coronavirus, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is continuously making efforts to ensure an uninterrupted supply of oxygen.

The BMC has decided to set up its own oxygen bottling plant to fill jumbo cylinders, which will be set up at the cost of INR 21 crore. It will be near BPCL, Mahul.

The proposal of setting up the plant was tabled before the civic body’s Standing Committee on Wednesday, June 30, for approval. The project is expected to be ready within three months of receiving the work order, officials said.

Currently, BMC refills its oxygen cylinders from an oxygen supplier’s plant at Turbhe and Rabale in Navi Mumbai reports stated.

According to reports, BPCL has agreed to supply about 10 metric tonnes (MT) to 15 MT of oxygen per day to the bottling plant through a pipeline.

The BMC had earlier announced that it will set up oxygen plants at 16 sites to cater to the city’s oxygen demand.

Therefore, as per the proposal municipality plans to fill the plant with 1,500 jumbo oxygen cylinders with a capacity of 7.1 cubic meters per day during emergencies using oxygen.

For this, the municipality has given the contract to M / s. Mac Enterprises. The contractor will be responsible for the maintenance of the plant for the next five years.
