Various measures are being implemented to detect and treat cancer patients in the state in time. Health Minister Tanaji Sawant informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday that while conducting a special campaign for a cancer-free Maharashtra across the state, cervical cancer preventive vaccination will be given to girls aged 9 to 14 and cancer screening will be conducted in all medical colleges.

Cancer patients are increasing day by day in the state including Mumbai. The cost of necessary treatment for this is unfathomable and the cost of other examinations is running into lakhs. Against this backdrop, Captain R. Tamil Selvan, Ashish Shelar, Yamini Jadhav, Yogesh Sagar, Varsha Gaikwad etc raised the question through Lakshvedhi.

A four-phase program has been planned in the state for screening cancer patients. Many teams including Asha workers work for this. A few days ago, the health checkup of women was done through the Mata Surakshit Tar Ghar Surakshit (When mother is strong, then house stays strong) campaign. Sawant informed that 62,729 women were diagnosed with cancer.

He also announced on this occasion that a committee will be formed to establish a cancer hospital at Wadala. Finally, taking serious notice of these issues, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar suggested organising a special meeting of the concerned ministers and MLAs in his hall.
