In a bid to tackle the coronavirus outbreak,  Central Railway (CR) has trained 200 of its staff at suburban railway stations to spot symptoms of the virus and assist suspected commuters to the nearest hospital.

As stated in the Hindustan Times, station masters, ticket checkers, booking supervisors, railway hospital staff and railway personnel at the Emergency Medical Rooms (EMR) of suburban railway stations have been trained in handling passengers showing symptoms of the virus. The railway personnel will inform the district collector on the arrival of a suspected passenger and shift the passenger to the civic-run Kasturba Hospital. Notably, there are two positive cases detected in Mumbai which has taken the tally of infected people in the state to ten. 

Moreover, for the passengers travelling inside the local train can seek help by calling on railway helpline number i.e. 1123978046 or the railway security helpline number 182. Talking about the same, Chief Public Relation Officer (PRO) of Central Railway stated that more railway staff is being trained and passengers can report cases on the helpline number that provided.

Railways have also started announcements on platforms wherein they make announcements about the symptoms of the virus. As a precautionary measure, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hospitals are ready to handle situations, in case of emergency. More than a 100 beds have been arranged and kept in isolation wards at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, KB Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, KB Bhabha Municipal Hospital in Kurla and Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care in Jogeshwari.

Additionally, 24 health teams consisting of six members are deployed at every ward to monitor patients who may show symptoms of Coronavirus. Two teams will be deployed at the international airport to monitor the situation around the clock.
