Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the city of Mumbai, are increasing exponentially, and similar pattern has been observed across Maharashtra. Observing this, the state government and the local bodies have started taking preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus.

With an aim to implement the same effectively, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced the plan in Dharavi, and the rise in cases, in this locality has become a topic of discussion these days.

Recently released report shows that a minimum of 12 to 15 newly diagnosed patients are found in Dharavi once again, in an area which reported zero to minimal cases in a day.

Acting upon the same, the municipal corporation and the police administration are working hard to ensure that this number does not increase in the future, and once again the 'Dharavi Model' might be implemented. Strict action will be taken against those who behave in an unruly manner, and to strengthen the same, officials will conduct door-to-door investigation on a regular basis.

Police intimidation will be implemented once again.

Officials state that Dharavi, which once experienced an increased number of patients during the lockdown period, has now returned to its former position. Besides this, market operations have also resumed leading to crowded areas, eventually resulting in the higher number of cases.

According to the information given by the municipality, a few days ago, the number of COVID-19 cases reached zero, however, the same has now reached ten to twelve. Cases have increased in Dadar as well, whereby cases in Vanita Samaj's COVID Center have now crossed 100.

Testing plans are being drafted to control the infection, and clean up marshals have been deployed in some places under the directive of the municipality. The police administration has also taken up the task of disciplining the citizens through patrolling. Every department is raising awareness among the locals with the help of representatives. Officials are controlling the crowds in the market and cracking down on those walking without masks. Emphasis is being given on investigation.

Authorities have assigned a total of 11 health centers in the northern region, nine of which are in Dharavi. In addition, doctors are conducting check-ups through mobile vans and door-to-door screening.

Talking about the same, Assistant Commissioner of G-North ward, Kiran Dighavkar, said that the testing is being done on at least 20 to 25 persons who have been in contact with an infected patient. Authorities have asked every department to focus on Dharavi and ensure cases do not increase. Two days ago, action was taken against 90 people, in an hour, walking in and near the T-junction area without a mask. Ganeshotsav Mandals have appealed to the local representatives to be vigilant in their respective divisions.

Doctors from some private hospitals are called in by the police station for check-ups, and markets have placed restrictions on the number of outsiders. Efforts are being made to control the crowd informed Gulab Patil, senior police inspector, Dharavi police station.
