As per a recent development, Anand Mahindra owned Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd (M&M) will soon be developing affordable replacements for ventilators. Anand Mahindra in a tweet, a few days back, said that the company is working on manufacturing ventilators in the time of need and now, reports state that the team has 'Ambu bag' a prototype of bag valve mask, indigenously developed, to help patients in need.

The information released by the company stated that the bag would cost no more than 7,500, and will be an artificial manual-breathing unit, a self-inflating device to assist in medical cases dealing with breathing problems. The development was done with48 hours at company's Kandivali (Mumbai) and Igatpuri (Nashik), Anand Mahindra said on Thursday.

This device, once ready, would become a game-changer in the world of medicine as it can help a large group of people, owing to the cost and ease of use.

Talking about the same, Anand Mahindra said, “We are simultaneously working with an indigenous maker of ICU ventilators. These are sophisticated machines costing 5-10 lakh. This device is an interim lifesaver and the team estimates that it will cost below 7,500. We will seek guidance from specialists on the usefulness of the device."

The team at Mahindra is currently working hard to scale up the production of ventilators and develop this prototype, as it can be of great use in the coronavirus crisis. On March 22, 2020, Anand Mahindra informed the same on Twitter, after analysing the need to help the government and medical authorities. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, M&M said that the approval of Ambu bag is expected in three days and once the team receives the same, the design will be available for manufacturing.

Two other state-owned companies have been brought on board to assist in design simplification and to scale-up production.
