On September 22, 2021, 488 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the Greater Mumbai area, according to the statistics released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The numbers on Tuesday were significantly lower at 352. This rise in total positive cases can be attributed to the hike in the total number of tests done on Wednesday which stood at 40484.

Whilst 359 positive patients recovered and were thus discharged, the total covid-19 deaths registered on Wednesday was 4 all of whom had comorbidities and were over the age of 60. One of them was a male while the other three were female.

Although with these updates the recovery rate of Mumbai and the overall growth rate of coronavirus cases in Mumbai stayed constant at 97% and 0.06%, the doubling rate of the island city is now 1187 days.

On a positive note, based on the containment measures taken on September 21, 2021, there continue to be no active containment zones in the city. The number of active sealed buildings rose to 46 which on Tuesday was 45. In addition to this, the high-risk contact tracing undertaken in the last 24-hours is at 2,265.

Apart from the issue of coronavirus, Maharashtra is also dealing with depleting blood stocks that are said to last for only 8-10 days
